American Idol 2010 last night saw Alicia Keys anchor an hour of inspirational music at the opener of the Idol Gives Back week.
Crystal Bowersox , 24 years old from Toledo, Ohio became emotional after singing The Impressions "People Get Ready". She said that she had burst into tears due to her father being present in the audience.
"My dad's here," she said. "And this is the first time he's been here." Thankfully judges of the show were not cheesed off seeing Bowersox cry.
Kara DioGuardi told Crystal that all other contestants were "schooled" by her while Ellen DeGenres found her performance "beautiful". She also received a standing ovation from Randy Jackson.
"For me, it was in a completely different class than everything we heard tonight," Cowell said.
During the show some of the contestants were criticized for choosing not so appropriate songs. Some of the contestants to face criticism included 27-year-old Casey James of Fort Worth, Texas, 7-year-old high school student Aaron Kelly of Sonestown, Pa, 26-year-old personal trainer Michael Lynche of Queens, N.Y.
Ir seemed that the only two contestants who could impress the judges were Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. Dewyze sang Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer," which made Jackson say that he was "great artist ready to make great music." Likewise DeGeneres said Dewyze has "so much soul and depth," Two 20 year olds Tim Urban and Siobhan Magnus were unaffected by the mixed response from the judges.
